I Raise My Face to the Heavens

I raise my face to the heavens,
Opening my arms to embrace the skies.
Bare feet planted into the grass,
Heart and ears and palms open
To the knowledge surrounding me.

I raise my face to the heavens,
Bathing in the light of a moon or sun
Eyes open to admire a comforting Lady
Eyes closed to respect a reigning King.

I find myself in the heavens
Welcomed for my heart and my doings
Rather than my loyalties and my politics.
I am supplied with succulent God-like knowledge
Permitted to eat and absorb all the apples I wish.

I am grounded from the heavens by my world,
But raised up by my earth.
Shackled to views of life as material resources
Carried along by the wind away from "civil society"
So I raise my face to the heavens
Praying to be taken somewhere in the middle.
